
Tetsuo KANO, until recently director of research, is currently director of planning at JEPIC. JEPIC represents and is funded by twelve leading (and formerly incumbent) Electric Power Companies and engages in: researching World electricity industries; exchanging information with foreign electric power organizations; and promoting integrated international cooperation in developing countries. Among his many responsibilities and achievements, Mr KANO is a Japanese representative in the World Energy Council.
Tetsuo KANO formerly worked in the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the largest electric power company in Japan, more than 30 years, for the first 15 years as a researcher of the world energy situation, and for the later 15 years as manager for purchasing of oil and LNG. In the case of oil products, Tetsuo KANO led price negotiations with the Nippon Oil Company, the biggest oil company in Japan. In the case of LNG , Tetsuo KANO pioneered the importing of LNG from Malaysia- Bintul LNG Project and Australia North West Shelf Project. His last three years in TEPCO coincided with the dawn of deregulation of the electricity market in Japan, at which time Mr KANO was General Manager of Electric Sales in the metropolitan area of Tokyo.
