  • Dr Lewis is a leading international specialist in utility customer behaviour and psychology and related market and marketing issues including: Customer Loyalty / Switching; Demand Response / Eco-Home / Smart Grid; and Market Competitiveness / Efficiency.

    During 14 years in the liberalized utilities industry Dr Lewis has conducted research in over 50 countries for over 330 organizations including Shell, E.ON, EDF, RWE NPower, Panasonic, BP, Nokia, British Gas, Duke Energy, ABB, BC Hydro, Nuon, Fortum, RAO, Electrabel (GDF/Suez), E-Control (Austrian Regulator), CRIEPI (Central Research Institute of the Electric Power Industry of Japan), Landys & Gyr, Union Fenosa-Gas Natural, ADEME / World Energy Council (WEC), DECC (Department of Environment and Climate Change, UK), and Capgemini.

    Dr Lewis has also worked extensively at an industry and market-wide level, having written major benchmarking and advisory reports for e.g. the European Regulator’s Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG), Nordic Energy Regulators (NordReg) and the Finnish Ministry of Trade & Industry, as well as providing opinion and advice for the EU, the Finnish Parliament and a various other governmental organizations around the world.

    Dr Lewis is a globally renowned expert in the field of customer switching and loyalty. His World Energy Retail Market Rankings report is the leading authority on customer switching trends around the world, and his definition of customer switching has been adopted as the European norm within Europe and Australia (by the European Union authorities as well as the Energy Retailers of Australia Association).

    In the field of Smart Metering, Demand Response, Eco Home and Smart Grid, Dr Lewis is a board member of the Smart Energy Demand Coalition (SEDC), directed the world leading Respond 2010 best practice project, has been a keynote speaker at the world’s largest metering event (Metering/Billing/CRM Europe), advised utilities and other interest groups around the world, and is at the forefront of some of the world’s most advanced commercial smart home developments.

    Dr Lewis is also on the editorial board of the European ‘Energy Efficiency’ Journal published by Springer, has been on committees for e.g: ‘WWF (European Policy Office) Green Power Partnership Advisory Committee’, ‘Distribution Europe’, European Utility Awards and the International Utility CIO of the Year Awards, was founding chief editor of the book 'The Energyforum Global Report’, is a co-writer of the renowned Capgemini European Energy Markets Observatory, and has chaired and co-organized more than 50 high level seminars/conferences

    He was Formerly head of Marketing Research and Analysis for a UK based retailing subsidiary of Amoco and (now) Edf, during the onset of competition in the British retail energy market. Following this Dr Lewis was founder and chief of the University of Vaasa Energy Markets Group (VaasaEMG) as well as an Assistant Professor of Marketing.

    Dr Lewis holds a PhD in Marketing (customer psychology and behaviour) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and developed his graduate marketing expertise in the banking sector with American Express Bank in Frankfurt and National Westminster Bank in London.

    Jessica is a Senior Partner at VaasaETT. She specializes in smart metering, demand response and related smart grid, market structure and market development issues.

    Jessica is Chief Executive of the Smart Energy Demand Coalition (SEDC) and co-founder of the Retailers Taskforce working under the Smart Grids Technology Platform for the European Commission.  She has recently expanded the activities of this Taskforce to cooperate with the Peak Load Management Alliance in the USA – furthering international cooperation in Smart Grids development.  She acts as an Expert Reviewer for the European Commission on Smart Grids project proposals, deciding on funding for proposals and reviewing existing programs.  She has founded Global Demand Response Roundtable and the Demand Response Research Database, for the VaasaETT Global Energy Think Tank, collecting the latest research from over 30 countries.

    She acted as manager for Respond 2010 an 18 month Multi-Client Study reviewing the development of Smart Metering and Demand Response in 23 national markets.  For this she also directed detailed result comparison of 120 DR Pilot Studies.  She has developed and tested over a 24 month period, a point system for predicting Demand Response development in national markets.  She has participated in or led consultancy and research projects for:  Microsoft, Nuon, EDF, Capgemini, RWE, Schneider Electric, Landis & Gyr, Duke Energy, CREIPI of Japan, British Gas, Bord Gais, Union Fenosa, BC Hydro, TietoEnator, Panasonic and E-control among others.

    She has written for North American Clean Energy, Public Utilities Fortnightly, Metering International as well as reviewing work for the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, and the European Smart Metering Association.  She has given consulting advice for the organization of Metering Billing/CRM Europe, Metering Scandinavia, Metering Russia, The Demand Response Summit and other conferences.  She serves on the steering committee for Metering Europe Synergy.  She acts as the Scandinavian Correspondent for Metering Magazine International. She presents findings at events for EDF, Synergy, Energyforum, Spintelligent, the Global Forum, Microsoft, The European Technology Platform for Smart Grids, EyeForEnergy ESMA and the European Commission among others.

    Christophe has been a market analyst at VaasaETT since 2007. He is specialised in several market analysis fields including smart grid, demand response and market pricing issues. Christophe has worked as a key researcher for clients such as ADEME / World Energy Council, NUON, Panasonic, Capgemini, EDF and ONZO. Christophe has also taken part in and co-organized VaasaETT's energy events.

    Daria has worked for VaasaETT since 2008. She has a PhD in Energy Business from the University of Omsk, Russia. She has worked on various projects for VaasaETT in Russia and elsewhere in Europe. As the primary researcher for Metering Russia 2009 (SynergyEvents-VaasaETT collaboration) Daria obtained contacts with large numbers of key utilities, experts and vendors in the Russian energy market relating to distribution grid development. Daria has also been a writer of various reviewed reports including one for CRIEPI (Central Research Institute of the Electric Power Industry) 2010.  Daria is our key link to the Russian market.
